New Ideas or Bad Leadership
Business leadership as it stands today is a matter of being both innovative and humble. I see plenty of smart, intelligent people in the marketplace who perpetuate lots of bad ideas and bad habits. On the other side, I see lots of over confident people run out to become cowboys for a certain industry only to get burned by the process.
Take a look at any industry that’s older than 15 years. Chances are pretty high that a company in the middle of the bell curve in terms of results is looking at the competition for new ways to gain a competitive edge. They are hoping to find that one additional thing that will help them move to the top.
A lot of times what we need is to find a way to change the nature of the marketplace without changing what makes the company unique. This is where that humility aspect comes into play. Changing the way we play the game means getting buy in from everyone on our team. We need everyone in the company providing input and contributing to the process without caring who gets the credit.
Now don’t misunderstand me. There are some things about those industries that are systematic and shouldn’t be changed. For example I firmly believe Network Marketing is a marketing based business not a sales business. Anything that systematically promotes high exposure to the marketplace rather than “closing” a prospect fits very well.
